Guitar Slide Wednesday: Garth Brooks Version

Yesterday, the Country Music Association announced the 2012 inductees to the Country Music Hall of Fame. This year’s inductees are Connie Smith, Hargus “Pig” Robbins, and Garth Brooks. There’s a lot to be said about each of these folks, and perhaps once I get back into town, I’ll post a video for the others. But, today, Guitar Slide Wednesday features Garth Brooks.

Brooks’ importance in popular music history and country music history is pretty much undeniable. A talented businessman, musician, and singer/songwriter, he brought a new performing sensibility to country music and went multi-platinum as a country artist. Whatever you think of him (he killed country music, he saved country music, he wasn’t really a country musician, etc.), he was (and is) an amazing performer and entertainer.

I had the opportunity last year to see him perform live in Nashville in 2010… twice–once with Pennsylvania Music Scholar and once with College Friend. I’m extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to see him and I hope I get another chance!

Today’s song is “Two of a Kind, Workin’ on a Full House.” The instrumental hook features a fiddle, but throughout the song the pedal steel has a few moments, too. My favorite pedal steel slide-y moment happens around 0:53 leading into the chorus.

Unfortunately, this video is a Google video and I can’t embed it here on the blog… so click over and get your Garth and guitar slide fix!
